Why it's buy-it-for-life
Redditors report pairs lasting decades of daily wear with minimal visible wear, though several note a perceived decline in build quality on newer production runs, poor cold-weather traction, and mixed comfort. Dr. Martens also runs a "For Life" program that has replaced worn boots with a new pair for a small admin fee even years after purchase, backing up the brand's durability claims with an actual warranty.
What owners say
The OP walked through Dr. Martens' "For Life" replacement program step by step: emailing photos of worn boots, receiving a return label, and getting a discount code redeemable for a new pair within about a week, with only a £20 admin fee added at checkout. Commenters confirm the program is still being honored years after purchase, including one who redeemed a code from boots bought in 2016 and another still wearing made-in-England boots from 1998. The official reply email Dr. Martens sends states the code covers any style up to £170 (excluding Made in England and collaboration boots) and that the guarantee continues to apply to future replacements, though several commenters were unsure how to obtain a code in the first place.

it did bother me that the shoes feel like they don't have any structural integrity after wearing them for a couple of months

I'm just having my second pair of these repaired after the soles split

I used my code 6 months ago from boots bought in 2016 and they sent me a new pair as well.

I love Doc Martens and I've genuinely never had a pair last less than 10 years and that's a really good shelf life for footwear imo

I was rocking my pair from 1999 last night and all day, impossible to kill! ... I love my Docs (3 pairs)

I started with doc marten work boots at 20yo, they fell apart pretty quick

They aren't that comfortable to wear imo once that has gone

Mine are also from 94 but are not nearly in as pristine condition.

Back when Docs were made with quality. I've gone through 3 pairs in less than 10 years. Never buying them again.

Absolutely horrible in the snow. The soles freeze solid. Might as well be wearing ice skates.

I bought my docs close to a decade ago and still wear them daily, they do not look nearly as old as they are.

Docs are great but you already mentioned them.

I wonder if my made in England boots from 1998 are covered. Not that they need it even though I still wear them often.

Docs aren't good anymore they are owned by another company... They changed the material they used or something

Good job on getting the better brand!

Now if only Doc Martens were actually comfortable to wear…

Every day on Reddit I see a picture of Doc Martens and every day I read a thread about how they're shitty now and not worth buying... that's not even true.

But they make your toes all crunched look at that toe box

I bought this pair in 1993 from the Army Navy Store in Philadelphia and they have lasted the test of time!
I do not recommend Doc Martins anymore... that being said... they have been a great pair of shoes for me for the past 10 years
I've wanted them for so long, did a little research to find the original factory, and then begged my husband for them for Christmas! Love them so much
Dr. Martens: Cute but brutal break-in period.
Bravo on doing some homework and getting the ones worth having. Enjoy them.
Sent an Email with my FOR LIFE code... 30th Received the new boots. Looks like they're going to keep honouring it!
