Why it's buy-it-for-life
Covered by a Guaranteed for Life warranty; one redditor owns three styles bought discounted through CAA and says they're all made in Canada.
What owners say
Commenters largely defend Tilley's Canadian-made models — several owners report Canadian-made T3s and older hats holding up for five to ten-plus years, including one satisfied buyer of a two-year-old modern Tilley. One buyer contrasts a solid Canadian-made T3 favorably against the brand's Chinese-made 'aero' hats sold alongside it. The original poster and others note that under new ownership Tilley's warranty now involves fees and overall quality has declined, so some now recommend the Canadian-made models specifically over the general lineup.

I've got an old Tilley that's still fire.

I have 3 Tilley hats... All made in Canada and covered by the Guaranteed for Life.

The new owners have adopted the financial model that sees warranties as an opportunity to obtain more of customer's money (Through fees). Costs down, quality down, failures up, fees up.
Some Tilleys are still made in canada and high quality. I know the T5 Cotton Duck hat is bought last year is anyway and I believe there were 5-10 models still made in canada.
I bought a Canadian made T3 last month, no complaints - manifestly a very solid bit of kit.
Have you tried a modern Tilley? I got mine 2 years ago, and I love it.
My two made in Canada tilleys are excellent. One is 5 years old and the other is 10.
I still have two of the Canadian made ones. Still going strong so hopefully no replacing them for a while.
