A 35-year-old family machine still works perfectly, and owners of 1970s models report strong motors and simple, durable mechanisms compared to feature-laden new machines. The main long-term risk is spare parts: the sewing machine division was sold off in pieces, so replacement parts are getting harder to source.

My mom just sold her Husqvarna quilting machine because you can't get parts... Now spare parts are going to be harder to find.
