Right-to-repair support (iFixit sells parts and directions) plus an open ecosystem — no forced Amazon account, DRM-free epub/kepub imports, and strong Calibre library integration. Long-term owners report years of daily use with no ebook-store lock-in, though reliability reports are mixed: one Kobo Libra Colour failed within 3 months, and remote logout/account removal on a lost device isn't supported.

Kobo ereaders
you can't log out of a device remotely (so when I lost a Kobo, I couldn't remove it from my account)
Kobos are very open. I have one, and I never buy books from the Kobo shop. All my books come from external sources.
