Why it's buy-it-for-life
Old Maytag dryers (pre-1994 'blackface' models) are repeatedly reported running 30-50 years with zero maintenance — one owner's set turns 50 this year. Owners praise the simple mechanical controls and note parts and repair diagrams/videos remain widely available, echoing Maytag's pre-Whirlpool reputation for dependability.

I'm more interested in the 1970's Maytag directly behind it. That is a true BIFL appliance!

The simplicity of the controls and options on that dryer are enviable.

Recently bought a house built in 1998 from the original owner and it came with the original Maytag washer and dryer. Nothing wrong with them.

It's not survivorship bias, these were built and designed to last. Mine turn 50 years old in September.

Maytag (Washer & Dryer)... have been trouble free going on 13yrs

This Maytag set is almost 40 years old, survived multiple moves, ZERO maintenance, and still kickin' it.
I disassemble my mid 1970's Maytag dryer every few years for the same reason.
55 years for Maytag washer and dryer
That combo will last longer than if you bought a brand new one
drawings and parts are readily available, as are youtube videos for maintenance, troubleshooting and repair... it's entirely possible to get another 30 years out of them.
They had these exact same machines... I took them home where they are in storage, waiting for their moment to shine
