A vintage stainless-steel vacuum thermos made under the Stanley/Aladdin name, commonly found secondhand. Uses a double-wall vacuum liner to keep beverages hot or cold for hours.

Why it's buy-it-for-life

Redditors report decades of continued use on thrifted and inherited units, including one still going strong after roughly 50 years, and Stanley's lifetime warranty covers defects even on old units. Owners note the stainless liner tolerates cosmetic scratches safely, though pre-2002 units used a charcoal-based ("Charvac") insulation system that some recommend avoiding if the liner shows damage. Some also suggest swapping the original plastic cap on older units, since period plastics may contain BPA.

This is stainless steel inside. A scratch in stainless steel is safe.

Aladdin-Stanley Thermos, ~50yrs of service! "I will not break" is an apt motto.

i'd replace that plastic cap considering most plastic back then had bpa in it

They have a lifetime warranty, and will send you a new one if you're that concerned. I'd still use it though.

I still have my Stanley camo thermos at my childhood home and still use it yearly for hunting season.

Not knowing anything about safety, I would suggest going with your instinct on not using it.

I stay well clear of pre-2002 Stanley thermoses...they were know as having a Charvac system...charcoal is not exactly safe for use in a drinking vessel.

I have had a Stanley thermos forever... the old school green bullet shaped ones with the drinking cup lid.
