I stay well clear of pre-2002 Stanley thermoses...they were know as having a Charvac system...charcoal is not exactly safe for use in a drinking vessel.

I have had a Stanley thermos forever... the old school green bullet shaped ones with the drinking cup lid.
This is stainless steel inside. A scratch in stainless steel is safe.
I thrifted this Stanley Aladdin thermos for 17 dollars, and it's in perfect shape.

i'd replace that plastic cap considering most plastic back then had bpa in it
They have a lifetime warranty, and will send you a new one if you're that concerned. I'd still use it though.
