We switched to Suri - all metal w/ recyclable head. Much more affordable than our Panasonic. Comfortable vibration, pretty darn quiet, too.
We switched over to Suri toothbrushes. The battery lasts for months without charging. You can get them with a travel case that's slim and acts as a charger and infrared cleaner. Not going back.
SURI is the only sustainable and serviceable electric brush that I know of.
